Laser interferometry applied to mercury surfaces (manometer)

Abstract

The use of laser fringe-counting interferometry for the measurement of changes of mercury level in a U-tube manometer is discussed. A successful application is reported of a system capable of measuring displacements of at least 400 mm at speeds up to 1 mm s-1.
