Abstract

This article is a case study of Ralph Steiner and Willard Van Dyke's classic documentary, The City. The critical and aesthetic principles of Sergei Eisenstein and Rudolph Arnheim demonstrate how rhythm functions formally and rhetorically to create cinematic knowledge.
