Abstract

This article presents a framework that explores four facets of literacy that are considered essential for understanding the literacy of individuals with visual impairments. Definitions of two levels of literacy—basic and functional—are proposed, along with a challenge to the field to resolve issues related to literacy of individuals with visual impairments.
