Abstract The complete amino acid sequence of a low molecular weight encephalitogenic fragment of the basic protein of myelin from bovine spinal cord was determined by standard enzyme and chemical techniques on peptides derived from trypsin, chymotrypsin, thermolysin, and dilute acid hydrolyses. Tryptic peptides of the trinitrophenylated fragment were also used. The following structure was obtained: [see PDF for sequence]. The amino acid sequences of the rabbit, guinea pig, monkey, and human encephalitogen are also reported.
