This proceedings, Restructuring: America and Beyond , contains the papers presented at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Thirteenth Structures Congress held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, April 3-5, 1995. These papers cover structural engineering subjects ranging from research to practice which concern planning, analysis, design, aesthetics, testing, materials, and construction of structural systems. Within these broad categories, the papers discuss a number of topics including: 1) Inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation of buildings and bridges; 2) intelligent damage monitoring; 3) seismic retrofit; 4) structural testing during construction; 5) innovative materials for the infrastructure; 6) structural behavior and performance; and 7) lifetime cost, maintenance and reliability of structures. This collection provides design professionals, researchers, educators, and students with a wealth of technical information regarding the international status and progress of structural engineering with a good balance between theoretical concepts and practical applications.
