Abstract

Patients with severe nutritional and pregnancy megaloblastic anaemia were treated with combinations of folic acid and vitamin B12 in doses ranging from an ineffective to a presumed fully effective level. The study was designed to determine the separate contributions of the two vitamins to the response to treatment of this anaemia and particularly to detect any interaction (potentiation) between the two vitamins. Folic acid was found to give significant variations in response, but vitamin B12 did not show any effect. No interaction was detected.
