Abstract

Sensor management involves the control of one or more sensors on one or more platforms in an intelligent manner over time to achieve the needs of the mission being performed by the platform or platforms in question. The control parameters for a single sensor are discussed, and the additional control issues introduced by having multiple sensors on a single platform ale addressed. The complexities introduced by spreading sensors across multiple platforms are considered. Three significantly different analytical approaches have been used for operating on the decision options and criteria for sensor management: (1) heuristics (or rules) with greedy search algorithms; (2) optimization techniques to include decision analysis (or utility theory), linear programming (the assignment problem), and fuzzy set theory; and (3) team theory. These solution strategies are briefly evaluated.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
