Abstract

Remedial cementing is the means most frequently used to inhibit water production. However, plugback and squeeze treatments are effective only if water-producing (or thieving) intervals can be identified and isolated, and if the formation prevents water from bypassing the treated interval. Cementing operations are detailed and sample calculations are provided, together with discussion of widely held misconceptions that surround this subject.
