Compact bulk optical 90° hybrid for balanced phase diversity receivers

Abstract

We describe a compact and stable bulk optical 90° hybrid offering advantages as compared to fibre-optic realisations. The excess loss of the pigtailed hybrid is only 2.0dB. The proper hybrid function has been proved in a self-heterodyne measurement set-up.
