Abstract

A simulation model is developed for the anaerobic digestion of animal (swine and poultry) wastes. The model describes the breakdown of waste and acid formation, formation of gases and carbonate equilibrium, and N and cation balance. The basic model is a 2-microbial-culture model composed of acid-formers (facultative heterotrophs) and CH/sub 4/-formers (obligate anaerobes).
