Trustee Authority
Trustee Authority is a formal legal power vested in designated governmental or tribal officials, as natural resource trustees, to initiate claims, seek compensation, and enforce restoration for injuries to natural resources caused by unauthorized releases of hazardous substances or oil, thereby distinguishing it from general regulatory enforcement by its fiduciary and remedial focus on public natural resource interests.
