Take-all Root Rot

Take-All Root Rot is a fungal root disease, caused by the soil-borne pathogen *Phaeosphaeria nodorum* (anamorph: *Gaeumannomyces graminis* var. *tritici*), that specifically infects the root systems of cereal crops, leading to extensive blackening of roots, reduced water and nutrient uptake, and eventual plant death, thereby distinguishing it from other root rots by its host specificity, pathological symptoms, and causal agent within the broader category of plant root diseases.
