Surface Hoar Formation

Surface Hoar Formation is a physical crystallization process in snowpack formation whereby large, plate-like ice crystals develop on the snow surface through vapor deposition under conditions of high humidity, clear skies, and temperature gradients, distinguishing it from other snow metamorphism types by its initiation at the air–snow interface and dependence on radiative cooling.
