Reconstruction Era

Reconstruction Era is a period in United States history, conventionally dated from 1865 to 1877, during which the federal government and contested state and local regimes sought to reintegrate the former Confederate states into the Union and to redefine, expand, and contest the legal, political, and social status and rights of formerly enslaved African Americans.
