Prophage-mediated Transfer

Prophage-Mediated Transfer is a horizontal gene transfer mechanism in which genetic material is transferred between bacteria through the excision and mobilization of a prophage—a latent bacteriophage genome integrated into the host chromosome—that carries adjacent bacterial genes to a recipient cell during subsequent infection.
