Presequence-dependent Import Pathway

The "Presequence-Dependent Import Pathway" is a mitochondrial protein import mechanism that directs nuclear-encoded precursor proteins to the mitochondrial matrix via an N-terminal targeting signal, known as a presequence, which is recognized by receptors of the translocase of the outer membrane (TOM) complex and subsequently translocated through the TIM23 complex in a membrane potential-dependent manner.
