Physical Parameterization

Physical Parameterization is a numerical modeling technique in Numerical Weather Prediction whereby the aggregate effects of unresolved or subgrid-scale physical processes (such as radiation, convection, cloud microphysics, and turbulence) are represented by simplified, typically empirical or semi-empirical relationships expressed in terms of the model’s resolved state variables.
