Pathogenesis is the biological process by which a disease or condition develops and progresses within an organism. As an academic concept and area of research, it investigates the sequence of events, cellular and molecular mechanisms, and factors that lead from the initial cause or exposure to the manifestation of clinical symptoms and the ultimate outcome of the disease.
