Oppositional Consciousness

Oppositional Consciousness is a theoretical construct in critical social theory that denotes a reflexive awareness developed by marginalized groups, particularly within the contexts of Critical Pedagogy and the Philosophy of Black Power, through which dominant ideologies, systemic oppression, and hegemonic cultural norms are actively recognized, resisted, and redefined in pursuit of emancipatory praxis.
