Occluded Fronts

An Occluded Front is a synoptic-scale front, formed during the advanced stage of cyclone evolution, wherein a cold front overtakes a warm front, resulting in the lifting of the warm air mass aloft and the merging of the two frontal boundaries into a single complex front characterized by a combination of cold and warm front properties.
