Near-Field Diffraction is a wave diffraction phenomenon characterized by the interference and spatial redistribution of wavefronts in the region close to a diffracting aperture or obstacle, where the Fresnel number is of order unity and the propagation distance is insufficient for far-field asymptotic approximations to apply.
