About

Metaoptics is a research field concerned with the design, fabrication, and characterization of optical devices that derive their properties from the interaction of light with artificial subwavelength structures rather than bulk material response. This discipline investigates how precisely engineered nanostructures, typically arranged in planar metasurfaces or volumetric metamaterials, can be used to mold and manipulate light's properties (amplitude, phase, polarization) with high spatial resolution, enabling functionalities such as focusing, beam steering, and wavefront shaping in ultrathin form factors. Its significance lies in providing a pathway toward miniaturized, high-performance optical components and systems beyond the limitations of traditional bulk optics.
