Mesoderm Internalization

Mesoderm Internalization is a developmental process—in the broader class of gastrulation events—defined by the inward migration and spatial reorganization of mesodermal precursor cells from the embryo's surface to an internal layer between the ectoderm and endoderm, thereby establishing the germ layer that gives rise to muscle, skeletal, and circulatory tissues.
