Hydration Shell Dehydration

Hydration Shell Dehydration is a physicochemical process in which solvent molecules, predominantly water, are selectively stripped from the solvation layer surrounding an ion during its passage through a confined environment, thereby enabling ion selectivity by modulating the energetic cost of desolvation in relation to the ion's size, charge density, and host matrix interactions.
