Flash Separation is a thermodynamic process in reservoir fluid phase behavior analysis whereby a multi-component fluid system, upon a sudden reduction in pressure, instantaneously partitions into coexisting vapor and liquid phases in equilibrium, distinguished from other separation techniques by its assumption of instantaneous equilibrium and absence of intermediate stages.
