Excited-state Absorption

Excited-State Absorption is a nonlinear optical process in which an ion or molecule that has already been promoted to an excited electronic state absorbs a second photon, thereby transitioning to a higher-lying excited state, distinct from ground-state absorption by requiring prior excitation as a prerequisite for photon absorption.
