Envelope Function Approximation
Envelope Function Approximation is a theoretical framework in semiconductor physics that models the slowly varying envelope of the electronic wavefunction in quantum-confined structures, such as quantum wells, by separating it from the rapidly oscillating atomic-scale Bloch functions, thereby enabling the effective-mass approximation to describe carrier behavior in heterogeneous materials.
