Diffusion Size Effects

Diffusion Size Effects is a phenomenon in materials science whereby the rate and mechanism of atomic or molecular diffusion in a substance are systematically altered by the reduction in particle or grain size to the nanoscale, leading to enhanced or suppressed diffusivity compared to bulk materials due to the increased contribution of surface and interface diffusion pathways.
