Cold Standby Systems

Cold Standby Systems is a fault-tolerant system configuration in which a backup component remains inactive and powered off until a failure in the primary system triggers its activation, distinguishing it from other redundancy approaches by its minimal operational overhead during normal conditions and extended recovery time due to the requirement for initialization upon failover.
