African Easterly Waves is a synoptic-scale atmospheric disturbance characterized by a westward-propagating trough of low pressure embedded within the African Easterly Jet, distinguishing it from other tropical waves by its genesis over eastern Africa and its critical role in the modulation of rainfall and tropical cyclogenesis across the Atlantic basin.
