Recently employed chemical analytical methods offer a means for measuring past subsistence practices. Carbon isotope analysis and trace element analysis provide in dications of the importance of certain dietary components. The present study deals with the trace element analysis of bone samples from prehistoric sites in Wisconsin. Changes in strontium values through time suggest increasing plant use from the Late Archaic to the Mississippian. Comparison is made with other recent studies of diet.
