Abstract

Sodium polyanethol sulfonate in a concentration of 0.0125% was inhibitory against Streptobacillus moniliformis isolated from a case of Haverhill fever. Identification of the organism was most expedient by the fluorescent antibody (FA) procedure. In the absence of specific FA conjugate, biochemical characterization was sufficient for identification. S. moniliformis fermented glucose to acetic, formic, lactic, and succinic acids as determined by gas chromatography.
