This paper discusses experimental and theoretical aspects of gas distribution and heat transfer in spouted beds fitted with porous and non-porous draft-tubes. A computer model has been developed from force and mass balance on the gas flowing through the spout and annulus regions of the bed. Fluid density and viscosity variations are included to allow for thermal effects. Gas distribution and batch heating kinetics predicted by the model compare favorably with experimental results.
