Abstract

Experiments have been made in a towing tank to measure the effect of shallow water on the form factor used in the scaling of resistance measurements on models. Measurements were made on seven models with a range of block coefficients and which were representative of a variety of ship types ranging from patrol boats through to oil tankers. The results have shown that the form factor is dependent on water depth and an empirical relationship between form factor and hull draught/water depth ratio has been found
