Abstract

Software is eating the world", wrote venture capitalist and Silicon Valley veteran Marc Andreessen 31 , and the world is served in big chunks of data. Research questionsIn order to better explore and interpret both the economic and societal value of big data and its risks, a deeper understanding is required of the value creation process of data and data-driven innovation, the interaction between data-driven innovation and the transcending big data ecosystem and the players, technologies and dynamics that structure this ecosystem. As Mark Graham from the Oxford Internet Institute states after describing the increasing importance of information in our society:It is important to understand who produces and reproduces, who has access, and who and where are represented by information in our contemporary knowledge economy."32 23 Wakefield, J.
