Abstract

The present study examined the moderating role of emotion regulation (ER) and the mediating role of social competence (SC) on the relationship between parent-child relationship (PCR) and psychological well-being (PWB) of adolescents. A total of 358 adolescents from Kerala (173 boys and 185 girls, mean age = 14.64, standard deviation = 1.31) were selected using convenient sampling method and the data were collected using self-reported measures for PCR, ER, SC, and PWB. All the analyses were performed using IBM SPSS AMOS version 24. The results indicated that PCR, dimensions of ER, and SC are significantly correlated with PWB of adolescents. The findings show that ER has a moderating effect and SC has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between PCRs and adolescents’ PWB. The study’s limitations, recommendations, and implications were discussed.
