Division of focal plane (DoFP) polarization image sensors can obtain a complete set of polarization information at every image. Because of the high acquisition efficiency, these sensors are increasingly used in bionic polarization orientation. However, the resolution loss of image and instantaneous field-of-view (IFOV) errors of DoFP sensors will lead to measurement errors in polarization information, which will reduce the orientation accuracy of DoFP sensors. In this paper, we reveal how these errors will affect the measurement accuracy of polarization information and orientation accuracy. The measurement error model of polarization information is then established, simulated, and analyzed. Finally, a compensation algorithm is proposed for the polarization orientation. The outdoor experimental results illustrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce the measurement errors of polarization information and improve orientation accuracy.
