Abstract

The emphasis of this article is on distributed generators that are interconnected to with utility distribution systems. These will generally be units smaller than 10 MW. Larger units are generally connected directly to transmission facilities and will most likely be commercial power producers. The units installed on distribution systems will typically be no larger than 1 or 2 MW. These would be installed mostly by the utility itself or by end users. This method of generation is commonly referred to as "distributed generation" (DG).
