Abstract Tomato plants, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Floradel, were grown in environments of 400, 800, or 1200 ppm CO 2 . Otherwise, identical environmental parameters were maintained. Two successive harvests were made: 1) 50 days from seeding, 2) 64 days from seeding. No significant differences occurred in vegetative growth of plants grown under the 3 CO 2 levels. While there was no ultimate difference in either the number or development of flowers, plants growing in 800 and 1200 ppm CO 2 environments had both a significantly greater fruit number and greater fruit weight than plants growing in the lower CO 2 level of 400 ppm.
