Abstract

Hexafluoroisobutylation of ketoesters, malonates, diketones, Schiff base esters and malononitrile is reported. The reaction involves an elimination/allylic shift/hydrofluorination cascade process that efficiently overcomes the usual S N 2′ mechanism.
