Control of Aeration in Static Pile Composting

Abstract

The systems of aeration control currently available for "Aerated Static Pile" composting are reviewed. These systems are fixed rate, variable rate and automated rate of aeration control. It is concluded that only the automated aeration system can actually cater for the dynamic nature of the composting process. Advantages such as a means of monitoring aeration effectiveness, and an indication of the end of active composting can be incorporated into the system.
