Ausschlussverfahren: Die Synthese eines [2]Rotaxans verläuft unter Photoextrusion von SO2 aus dem Arylmethylsulfonmotiv eines [2]Pseudorotaxans. Ein hantelförmiges Gastmolekül bewirkt eine Schrumpfungsreaktion, bei der die Zahl der Atome im Ringgerüst der makrocyclischen Komponente des [2]Pseudorotaxans verringert wird (siehe Bild).
