Experimental data on the lineshapes of nine independent interaction-induced spectra of CS2 through the normal liquid range and on the forbidden Raman v 2 band in the crystal are presented. The lineshapes are interpreted using a multipole model for the interaction-induced moments and by adaptation of a theory of the depolarized light scattering in atomic fluids.
