Parathyroid Thermography

Abstract

Thermograms of the neck were taken in multiple projections with and without the application of alcohol to the entire scanning area in 29 cases of suspected primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism. Normal thyroid and parathyroid glands were not detected thermographically. Foci of increased heat in the neck between the suprasternal notch and the superior margin of the thyroid cartilage were found to represent either abnormal parathyroid or thyroid tissue. Preliminary thermographic patterns of primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism have been established.
