United Nations established the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992 to stablise the Green House Gases (GHGs) conentrations in the atmosphere. India has initiated preparations of its Initial National Communication to the UNFCCC in November 2001 in the form of Project NATCOM. At present about 110 institutions including Universities , Government Departments , Research institutions , Autonomous bodies , and NonGovernmental Organizations have been engaged in multi-discplinary activities all over the country. Present paper examines the experiences of the project to respond to the likely adverse impacts of climate change and also to improve the quality of future National Communiclltions to the UNFCCC.
