Facettenreiche Enzymaktivität: D-Fructose-6-phosphat-Aldolase (FSA) katalysiert die Selbstaldolisierung von Glycolaldehyd (GA) sowie gekreuzte Aldoladditionen mit anderen Aldehyden. Weil GA von FSA eher als Donor denn als Akzeptor umgesetzt wird, gelingen bei niedriger GA-Konzentration auch gekreuzte Aldolreaktionen mit guten und mäßigen Aldehydakzeptoren.
