Photoemission spectra have been recorded for the dichalcogenides of several metals in groups IVA and IVB, using incident photon energies of 21.2, 40.8 and 48.4 eV. Considerable structure is resolved in the valence bands which are based mainly on chalcogen p orbitals. An interpretation given in terms of a simple LCAO model is in qualitative agreement with recent band structure calculations.
