Abstract

<i>The Handbook of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Cytology</i>by Kline is a monograph dedicated only to the technique and interpretation of aspirates obtained by percutaneous fineneedle biopsy guided by several radiological techniques. Each chapter opens with a summary of the anatomy and histology of the organ under discussion. The first chapter includes not only the historical background of aspiration cytology but the controversial issue of who performs cytoaspiration as well. There follow other general considerations such as indications, complications, diagnostic criteria, diagnosis, and "suggestions and encouragement." Also included in this accurate and succinct chapter is a complete description of the techniques and necessary equipment. The second chapter, by radiologist Donald E. Red, MD, briefly describes the newest modalities of radiological guidance to percutaneous aspiration.
