Abstract

In this paper, a split ring resonator (SRR) sensor operating at 1.226 GHz with a -3 dB quality factor of 187 is presented while coated in varying thicknesses of a protective epoxy. A system level implementation has been performed by designing and fabricating both a sensor and readout circuit. The results indicate these sensors can be implemented using a cost-effective readout circuit and made highly durable to perform ice detection on walking paths and driveways.
