Abstract

In alloxan-diabetes in the rat, the uptake and oxidation of pyruvate by slices of ventricle muscle and by diaphragm muscle is impaired, and the output of lactate may be increased The cause of these abnormalities of pyruvate metabolism in diabetic muscle is not known. Newsholme & Randle (1964), Randle, Newsholme & Garland (1964) and Garland & Randle (1964a, b) have shown that two other abnormalities of carbohydrate metabolism in muscle from diabetic animals
